Thank you to Le Progrès for highlighting a problem that Lyon’s cabs are seeing on a daily basis in the field.
With over 140,000 passengers a day, Lyon Part-Dieu station is one of France’s main mobility hubs. However, since construction work was completed, the historic cab ranks have lost some of their visibility, to the detriment of passengers and professionals alike.
This is not just a corporatist demand. Behind this question lies a real issue of public service, urban planning and accessibility.
The regular Lyon traveler is generally familiar with the cab ranks. But outside travelers, often laden down with luggage, late for a meeting or tired after several connections, are primarily looking for the nearest exit. With several entrances to the station, the absence of visible stations on the main routes directly penalizes the user.
FORCE TAXI 69 also alerted the SNCF to the presence of promotional devices favoring certain digital platforms. We noted during the report that these kiosks and advertisements had been removed, which is a positive first step.
On June 11, we will be meeting with the Metropole de Lyon and station management to work on concrete solutions: reinstatement of historic stations, improved signage, enhanced cab visibility and consideration of video tagging of reserved spaces.
The aim is simple: to guarantee passengers fast, visible and efficient access to the most regulated, most accessible and often fastest mode of individual transport for leaving the station.
